It all started on Tuesday when
we woke up I was feeling kind of crampy and was having a few contractions. They picked up throughout the day and they
didn’t go away when I sat and rested for a couple of hours so I told Denver
that we should probably head over to Flagstaff because we might have a baby
tonight!
So we packed up our things and called Grandma to meet us
there. We checked into our hotel and
told Daley and Grandma goodnight and headed to the hospital. When we got there my contractions were strong
but not regular and I was only dilated to a 2.5 so they sent Denver and I
walking for an hour to see if we would have any progress. We got back and there was no progress so we
went back to the hotel and got a good night’s rest thinking the action would
happen Wednesday. So we woke up and
decided to do a big day of shopping to get the contractions going. We even went to the pool and swam with
Daley. She is such a little fish! The
only bad thing that happened was Denver got in the pool with his phone in his
pocket so he was phoneless for the rest of the trip because we thought we could
fix it when we got home. We had little
luck on Wednesday so we called and talked to Jennie and she was giving us all
kinds of ideas to get my contractions going.
One of the ideas was castor oil and spicy food so we decided I would
take the castor oil Thursday morning and we would do another big day of walking
and shopping and eat a bunch of spicy food.
Contractions started up again on Thursday just like they said they would
and that afternoon Denver and I decided to go to the hospital again because the
contractions were getting painful. We
were excited because we just knew this was it!
Well we get there and I had only progressed to a 4 but when I laid down
for them to monitor the contractions, went down to almost nothing. So they sent us home again!
I was feeling really embarrassed because we were texting
family and telling them we think this is it and then having the hospital send
us home. I was also feeling bad because we
were just hanging out in Flagstaff with nothing to do and spending money. But we sure had fun spending time with
Mom. I also felt embarrassed because I
thought other ladies would think I was just paranoid and I didn’t know what the
signs of labor were. I do admit that I
probably was paranoid because we lived so far away from the hospital and with
how fast labor went with Daley I didn’t know what to expect with Case. Everything about my pregnancy with Case was
different especially the labor part.
Well after we got back to the hotel after the hospital sent
us home we decided that we were just going to hang out and enjoy the next
couple of days until my induction date on Sunday April 7th. Pop and Madi Mad came Friday night! It was so fun having them there! We went out to eat and enjoyed the rest of
the evening just hanging out. We woke up
Saturday and took Dad to the Cal Ranch
store which is like a Tractor Supply store and we had fun looking at the baby
chicks and ducks and we showed Dad a really cool picture that we thought
reminded us of him. It is called Elk Omelet
and it’s a picture of a man with his pack horses just about to have a wreck and
an elk in the background that probably started the whole thing. It’s a really cool picture and Dad had to buy
it! We were contemplating on whether or
not to go to the Grand Canyon but we decided that we should stay close to the
hospital just in case! Wade, Nanette,
Jennie, Koley, and Bentley all came up on Saturday afternoon. Dad had to do some work on the computer and
Wade was exhausted from work so we left them in their hotel rooms and the rest
of us all went swimming. We were really hoping that my contractions would start
up again but we had no such luck! After
we all got cleaned up we decided to go to Native New Yorker for dinner and cold
stone for dessert. After that we went
back to the hotel and went to bed because early Sunday morning is when I was
going to be induced and the real party was going to start!
Denver and I got up at 4:30 and headed over to the hospital
to get there on time at 5:00 am. We got
there and they did the gels to loosen things up and had us walk for an
hour. When we got back they started the
pitosin, which was about 9:00. Grandma,
Nana, and Jennie all came in shortly after leaving Wade and Dad out in the
waiting room with the kiddos and Madison.
My contractions started to get painful around 11:00 and so I got my
epidural about 11:45. I was comfortable
and enjoying everyone’s company when I coughed and thought I had wet myself
because they hadn’t given me a catheter yet.
This was about 1:00 and the nurses looked at my contractions and they
were all really strong and happening one right after the other with little
breaks in between so they decided to check me.
When they lifted up the sheets they saw stuff that wasn’t urine so they did
a quick check and sure enough my water had broke and I was dilated to a
10.
So the doctor came in and as I started pushing Case’s
heartbeat went way down so Dr. Grant had to use a vacuum to get him out really
fast. Mom & Jennie even said that
the doctor even had both her hands in there to help get Case out even faster
which meant a lot of pain in the recover process on my end. But surprisingly I am healing quite
well! I have lots of energy and not too
painful with the help of some Advil. After
just a few pushes and with the help of the vacuum Case was born at 1:15 pm,
weighing 7lbs. 15oz. and 20.5 inches long in Flagstaff, AZ. Nana and Papa Platt came up from Payson to
see him even! After he was born everyone
got to come in to see him. Daley had a
hard time seeing me in a hospital.
Whenever she would come in she didn’t want to look or talk to me
much. It wasn’t until we got settled in
postpartum when she would finally sit in the chair next to me. When she sat
next to me she would say “Owee Mommy. I’m sorry Mommy.” It wasn’t until right before her and Denver
left back home that she would sit in bed with me.
Case is a healthy baby boy! Denver spent the night with us
the first night. We were thinking we were going to get to come
home the day after but because I was trying to breast feed they had us stay one
more night in the hospital. So Denver
and Daley went home because Denver had to get payroll done for the restaurant
and they left Monday night in a snow storm.
Mom stayed the night with me the second night. Well Case finally latched on that night and
cluster fed so Mom and I were exhausted when they released us the next
day. Before we were released we found
that Case had jaundice so we were sent home with a belly blanket and orders to
see the pediatrician the next day. So we
had to get another hotel for the night.
So we check into the hotel and kept Case on it all night so at the
appointment on Wednesday his numbers were good so they finally let us all come
home to be reunited! We missed Denver
and Daley sooooo much!
When we got home we found out that our power had
been out since earlier that morning and it didn’t look like we were going to
have power anytime soon. The funny part
of the story was before we got discharged from the hospital and sent home with
the florescent belly blanket the questions that they asked me was do you have
power at home? And of course I said yes haha.
I guess a transformer went out on our block and they were having a hard
time finding where it was. They did
however bring in a generator for us until they got it fixed. The joys of living on the rez! Denver went out and told them that we just
brought home a brand new baby and that we had to have power that night! Thank goodness for Denver! And to top things off, they finally get
everything working the next day and as
the power people were leaving they must have cut our phone lines so we didn’t
have any internet for another whole day so we were really delayed in getting
pictures posted for family and friends to see.
Case has been a great little baby so far! He use to squeel when he was hungry when he was in the hospital and all of the nurses thought it was the cutest/funniest thing! (So did we;) But now he just gives us a patient yelp. He gets really hungry A LOT! Haha...we have cluster feeding days ever few days which nothing gets done around the house but its all good! It's a great excuse to not do anything haha. The pediatrician was really impressed when we brought him back for his 1 week apointment when he had gained 6 oz. from his birth weight. They said they are happy when the babies gain 1/2-1 oz. a day. Case gained 3oz. a day! He is changing so much.
Here are some pictures...not in any order...of our fun filled week in Flagstaff!
Congrats Megan, so happy for you!! We're still trucking along over here, waiting waiting! I am out in public right now so I copied and pasted your story to read to myself at home later since I know it'll probably make me cry. ;]

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, just reading about the power going out makes me so mad for you! That happened to us ALL the time! That same problem with just the houses on the block. I'm glad they got you a generator though! I'm so happy you got a healthy baby though! Congrats!
